Bionics today

In June 1989 Paolo Dario, Giulio Sandini and Patrick Aebischer organized a workshop by the title: Robots and Biological Systems: Towards a New Bionics? Contributions from the workshop’s participants were collected in a Book published by Elsevier in Volume 102 of the “Computer and Systems Sciences Series”.
Looking at the text after 32 years, it seemed timely to re-propose the same question and analyze the evolution of the research themes both in terms of today’s achievements and in highlighting the excessive simplifications of the time made evident now by the advancements of knowledge and technology. The discussion will be animated by a group of participants of the 1989 workshop and organized around two round tables addressing the two intertwined streams of bionics research: bodyware and mindware.
The workshop "Bionics today. Robots and biological systems: a checkpoint of bionics evolution" will take place online on Tuesday, July 27, from 14.00 to 16.30 CEST. It is open and participants are free to ask questions either before and during the workshop.
